About the Professional Student Exchange Program (PSEP)

PSEP is a program that funds graduate education stipends to address critical healthcare needs in exchange for participants commitment to work in the State of Nevada once they graduate with their professional degree and practice license.

The PSEP program was created by the regional Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). Regional WICHE office oversees the Western Regional Compact which has 15 Western States and U.S. Pacific Territories and Freely Associated States of which Nevada is a member. Regional WICHE and the Nevada Office of WICHE work together in the selection process of Nevada PSEP stipend recipients.

Nevada PSEP Requirements

  1. You must be a Nevada resident for at least one (1) year prior to applying.  You must maintain your Nevada residency while in school.
  2. If awarded, your funding is paid directly to your school on your behalf. You will still be responsible for the balance of tuition and fees as determined by your school.
  3. If you are awarded a student support fee stipend, funds will be reserved for you for the duration of your program, subject to Nevada legislative appropriation, compliance with Nevada PSEP program requirements and good academic performance
  4. Upon graduation and licensure, you must return and physically reside in Nevada, and practice (employment) in the profession for which you received assistance.  Funding must be repaid in service to the State of Nevada within one year after the completion of your education. The participant has up to five years to fulfill their service obligation.
  5. One year of full-time employment is required for each year of funding received.  If you fail to fulfill the employment requirement, your stipend will convert to a loan with accrued interest and applicable penalties.  You have up to five years (after graduation) to fulfill your service obligation.
  6. While you are a participant of the program, you are required to keep the Nevada Office of WICHE
informed by completing the online Practice Questionnaire every six months. Along with the online

While in school you will need to provide a copy of your unofficial transcript (enrollment), Nevada driver’s license (Nevada residency), and contact information.

After you graduate you must provide our office with a copy of your employment verification letter to track the practice service hours completed, practice license, Nevada driver’s license and contact information.

Policy on Multiple Sources of Tuition Support for Students Enrolled in Nevada PSEP

A student enrolled through PSEP receives reduced tuition at public and private colleges or universities as their home state pays a support fee to the admitting school to help fund out-of-state tuition costs. The student may obtain federal or private financial support to cover unmet tuition or related costs.

If a student receives federal support that requires a service obligation to the federal government upon graduation, then the student should decline Nevada PSEP support.
